8 Winter Skincare Musts to Avoid Dry, Flaky Skin!

Sweaters and scarves are not the only things you should be preparing for winter. You should also prepare your skincare routine as the cold weather can cause dryness, itchiness, and irritation on your skin! Here are skin care tips to keep your skin healthy during winter!

1. Have shorter showers

Since the cold weather is already drying out your skin moisture, water will further strip away the skin's oily layer that keeps it supple. Limit your shower time to five to ten minutes--just enough to remove dirt from your skin.

2. Avoid scalding hot showers

While it is satisfying to shower in hot water during this season, it's not that great for your skin- as it will dry it out. Excessively hot water will wash away your natural oils that protect the surface of the skin and keep it hydrated. Instead, use warm water.

3. Exfoliate regularly

Hate the look of crusty, flaky, and dry skin in winter? So do we!
In order to remove dry, flaky skin, it is important to exfoliate your body at least once a week. When you exfoliate, dead skin cells that block the pores are washed away, revealing clear and healthy skin underneath.

Exfoliation will also help your other skincare products, such as body lotion and oil, work better. Once the pores are unclogged, skincare products can easily penetrate the skin, leaving you with a hydrated glow!

Use exfoliation tools like the CheekyGlo Exfoliating Glove to easily remove dirt and dead skin during winter. All you need to do is have a warm shower or bath for at least five minutes and you're ready to exfoliate. Just remember not to put any soap or lotion before scrubbing as the glove relies on friction. Once done, apply a body oil for softer, smoother skin!

4. Use a body oil

Cold air, dry indoor heat, low humidity levels, and harsh winter wind can all zap your skin of moisture. This can leave skin looking dull, dry, and tight. Body oils are hands-down the best way to lock moisture into your skin, and they’ll generally hydrate your skin for longer than thinner body lotions. That’s because oils share a similar structure to the natural lipids found in our skin, so they’re ideal for repairing and re-regulating your skin's moisture barrier.

Use our CheekyGlo Body Oil to nourish your skin! It is best to apply the body oil several times a week as the cold weather can easily dry it out.

5. Apply sunscreen

You might not feel the heat from the sun when you go out on a bright winter day, but the UV rays can still affect your skin. Without sunscreen, your skin will become dark, dry, burnt, and irritated. So by the time you play in the snow or go out to buy something, make sure that you use sunscreen.

6. Eat healthy

Eat fruits and veggies that are great sources of vitamins and anti-oxidant. Your skin needs these to stay healthy during the cold season. Get yourself some strawberries, carrots, tomatoes, spinach, and more! Eating healthy is a great a way to keep the skin looking younger and more radiant.

7. Stay hydrated

While applying moisturiser keeps the skin hydrated, it is also important to drink enough water to keep the skin soft and supple. This is also a great way to avoid having dry, flaky skin.

8. Avoid using products that contain alcohol

During this season, we need to adjust our skincare routine by avoiding products that can further dry out our skin. Products that contain alcohol should be avoided, and instead, use more hydrating and moisturising products.
