The Perfect Tanning Routine

In this blog, we will help you achieve the perfect tanned skin without annoying patches and streaks. This routine might be a little bit extensive, but doing this will be worth it!

Step 1: Exfoliation

Have you tried tanning your skin and noticed that some parts are darker? That's probably because you didn't exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation is an important step in prepping your skin because it removes dead skin cells. Self-tanning products tend to stick easily to dead skin, which can cause darker spots. To get an even skin colour, you should remove the dry skin and reveal the fresh skin underneath. These new skin cells absorb the tan products evenly and deeply.
So how should you exfoliate properly? Use an exfoliating tool like the CheekyGlo Exfoliating Glove. Simply soak your skin in warm water for at least 5 minutes to soften the dead skin cells. Remember not to apply any skin products before scrubbing as the glove relies on friction to remove dead skin cells.
After that, move out of the water and start scrubbing. Use your palm in making firm, long strokes. You can also control the pressure applied depending on your level of comfort.
Make sure that you exfoliate 12-24 hours before applying the tanning product.

Step 2: Shave

To make your skin smoother and ready for tanning, it is recommended to shave your hair a day before you apply self-tanning products.
After exfoliating your skin, you can start shaving the hair. Remember to always exfoliate before shaving to avoid having too much dead skin cells in the razor blades for a closer shave. You can also apply moisturising shaving cream to make the hair softer and easier to shave.

Step 3: Apply self-tanner

You can use a mitt to protect your hands from having too much colour. Start from your legs and work your way up to your upper body. As you apply the product, you can massage it on your skin to make sure that the colour is evenly spread out. Use circular motions until your whole body is covered. Leave it for around eight hours, and wear loose clothes so none of your skin will touch the other parts.
When it is time to wash it off, use cooler water because warm water tends to remove the color. Do not rub your skin, and just pat it dry.

Step 4: Apply body oil

Make sure to apply body oil every after shower to make the skin soft and hydrated. This will prevent having dry skin that causes darker spots. And if your tan fades, your skin will still look even and not streaky.
Repeat the process for five to seven days depending on how dark you want your tan to be.
