4 Exfoliation Mistakes You Might Be Making

Exfoliation is a great way to keep the skin healthy, smooth, and soft. When used correctly, the CheekyGlo Exfoliating Glove works wonders on the skin. However if you aren't getting the results you're looking for, you might be making one of these 4 common exfoliation mistakes.

1. Over-exfoliating

Yes, exfoliation is absolutely amazing for the skin, and you might be tempted to use our glove every single shower. But, did you know that our skin needs time to rest in between exfoliation sessions? This may be why you aren't experiencing as much visible peeling, or your skin might even feel a little off after too many exfoliation sessions. The signs that you are ever-exfoliating are irritation, redness even after hours of exfoliation, pain, and hypersensitivity. Remember to only exfoliate once or twice a week to keep your skin healthy!

2. Shaving before exfoliating

Exfoliation is a crucial step in your shaving routine. It is then important to prep the skin by exfoliating PRIOR to shaving, to get a clean, smooth shave. If you don't exfoliate your skin before shaving, your razor will become overloaded with dead skin cells which reduces its effectiveness. This means that you won't have a closer shave. Also, you might be more prone to ingrown hairs and razor bumps as the pores and hair follicles are not loosened up prior to shaving.

Plus, shaving before exfoliating makes the skin less grippy, meaning our glove would not be able to easily catch onto those dead skin particles. So, remember, exfoliate then shave!

3. Not soaking your skin long enough

In order to remove all the impurities from your skin, you need to soak it in warm water for at least five minutes to soften the dirt and dead skin on the surface. This makes it a lot easier to scrub off these unwanted nasties! Just remember not to apply soap, lotion, or oil before exfoliating as the exfoliation glove is relying on friction to remove dead skin.

4. Not moisturising afterwards

When you exfoliate, you are removing the outer layer of dead skin- including the natural oils. Always remember to apply a moisturiser or oil after exfoliating to keep the skin hydrated. Aside from hydration, applying a moisturiser is also a way to protect the newer cells from the sun and dry air. Never skip this step as this is a key to keeping your skin soft and smooth.

Now that you know these common exfoliation mistakes, start your exfoliation journey for smoother, softer skin. Use exfoliation tools like the CheekyGlo Body Glove and the Face Mitt to effectively remove the dead skin build-up, oil, and dirt. Our body glove is made with plant-based viscose that is perfect for deep exfoliation.
